I would like to take this time to give special thanks to the people who have unselfishly shared their time, and memories with me to make this page possible.
This following group of exceptional people were the first to help me out with the search for my father's Naval history. They assisted me greatly, even before I had the idea to make a web page. But once I had collected all these memories, I considered it my duty to share with others. With their encouragement this web page became reality.
Mr. Robert Daily CM2c. Mr. Joe Podorski EM1. Mr. Irv Koncal EM1c.
Mr. Garland Thompson EM3c. Mr. Ken Knudsen S1c. Mr. Henry Cimorelli S1c.
Mr. Henry Phillips Y2c. Mr. John Kleponis DC3c. Ammand Zolla M2c, George Prusia WT1c. Mrs. Susan Scioli / Daughter of Harry Welsh Y3c who kept and unbelievable scrap book of his time on board! And special thanks goes out to Mr. Joseph J. Krasinski, who has given decades of tireless effort in keeping track of the crew, and in keeping the memory of the USS GREENWOOD alive. We salute you!!

During the course of making this web page. Every once in a while I will get side tracked in the quest to make this the best web page I can. I will get caught up in the "My web page is better than your web page" mind set. Then I get letters like the following, and it snaps me right back to what is really important. The crew, the history of this fine ship, and that our fathers fought for something much greater than themselves. They fought for us, so we can enjoy the freedoms we have have today.
Dear Mr. Lorence,
I came on the discussion several hours ago and your question was the 1st one I read. I must have spent several hours on your web site. It was a very humbling experience for me. I left the site in tears. We take so much for granted these days in our great country, some of our younger people even demand things that they would never have had a chance to even see if it wouldn't have been for so many courageous military. Men such as those pictured in your web site. As a Veteran of Southeast Asia , I can honestly say that we need to show some deep appreciation, and show it more often to those who served and died defending our rights to enjoy the freedom and wealth that we, as Americans have today. I was pleased, and proud to tour your site. In viewing the picture of the USS Greenwood after the Iwo Jima operation. I could almost feel the pride of those brave sailors standing tall upon her deck. You have created a fitting memorial to the men who served aboard the USS Greenwood, and your Father.
With the deepest Sincerity, Tom.
